One of the most stringent conditions all angels must meet, Amber, other than double-advanced harp playing and skydiving abilities (not necessarily at the same time), is that they must not allow themselves to feel hurt or rejected by the choices made by others, no matter how much they’ve done for them nor how great their love.
Yeah, WOW.

I am NOT a morning person, especially on the weekend, but today, Andy Welfle scheduled a meeting at 9:30, so I had to get up. I was not happy. But there is a bright spot. Just as I do on weekday mornings, I turned on NPR while standing at the sink to clean away the sleep. In the amount of time it took me to curl my hair, apply my makeup and brush my teeth, I learned several amazing things that have enriched my day. In fact, it’s only 10:45 and I’ve already had 4 conversations about the following:
1- I want to read Istanbul Passage- I listened to an interview with Joseph Kanon, discussing his new book Istanbul Passage about the dawn of the Cold War. Though I am not a fan of war novels or espionage tales, the underlying internal human struggle and moral confusion piques my interest. It has officially been added to my Goodreads “To Read” list. You can listen to or read the interview on NPR’s website.
2- I have absolutely no idea how to grill. Thank God for Alton Brown. This morning, during the new “Taste of the Summer” series, he ran down some quick tips to improve the grilling experience. Did you know that flame is bad? I certainly didn’t. Perhaps the most compelling tidbit Alton shared is his favorite fruit to grill- peaches, glazed with bourbon and honey! Holy wow. Read all of his tips on NPR’s website.
3- Lobsters shed their shells. I guess I should have know that, but I didn’t. And apparently there’s this strange incident of premature shedding taking place off the shores of Maine, and it’s messing things up! What’s the big deal? These Lobsters that have shed their shells are called soft shell lobsters and don’t sell for as much as hard shell Lobsters. However, soft shell lobster meat tends to be sweeter and is perfect for use in Lobster Rolls. Fascinating! Read the whole story on NPR’s website.
Do you listen to NPR? You should. Mostly because it makes you seem super smart when you can drop intelligent tidbits like those mentioned above.
